The group decides to close the sarcophagus and leave the body untouched.

The adventurers continue forth and find a dead-end in the form of a mosaic. They examine the wall and find it to be a mechanical lock linked to the sculptures on it surface. Darien use is wit and unlock the secret door behind the mosaic and engage in a long corridor. Soon, they smell the breeze of an open body of water and arrive ashore an artificial beach deep into the dungeon. On the beach lay two small boats empowered by conjuration magic. The party take a boat down stream and are baffled by the magnificence of the carved cavern before accosting on another small beach near a waterfall that goes deeper into earth.

They enter a new corridor and find themselves before a locked door. Vartemoff tries to break the door and a voice answers his attempt. The voice identifies itself as a servant of Sorshen and denies them passage as they aren’t followers of the Beautiful Maiden. Vartemoff finishes bashing the door and combat ensues with a bare-chested man using invisibility and electrical-magic. The party ventured farther into the troglodyte’s cave, disbanded a group of lizards that appeared to celebrate a funeral rite and freed a gun-wielding man name Valad that accepted to follow the adventurers. They uncovered a room that seamed to house a lot of the sick troglodytes and Vartemoff used his connection to Solaris to heal the injured. A group of wandering troglodytes came to attack the party but after seeing their own healed, they quickly turned friendly and explained to the group that the troglodyte’s chief became insane after their last battle with the boggards, a race of frog-like men, and now he was willing to sacrifice the entire tribe to win against their enemies but the men weren’t willing to follow anymore. They also explained that the boggards were given metal-forged weapons by grey-warriors in exchange for passage under the light. The leader of the pack agreed to help the party but it had to kill the insane troglodyte’s leader and purge the boggards. The group accepted and found the leader at the end of the cave, fighting ensued but ultimately the warriors were to much of a thread to the chief.

The adventurers continued their journey and battled some living-flora and giant spiders before encountering a five-headed fire-breathing hydra that rested on a pile of treasure. They discovered one of the exit of the cave and could see a swamp village in the shadow of the mountains. After seeing that the village was patrolled by frog-men, without thinking twice, the group attacked at once. The battle was fierce, with Grimmjow almost perishing and Valad being brought to the knees but at the end the group prevailed and killed the war-band. Further investigation of the village by Darien uncovered that the tribe’s chief wasn’t here and that the group side-quest wasn’t over yet.

Following the mountains, the group found another cave entrance and had to kill more boggards before facing the tribe’s chief and his giant-frog bodyguards. The battle was quick and as the frog’s leader fell, the group had completed their side-quest and could continue the search for the Lady’s Light underground entrance bringing them closer to the next shard.

Requiem of Souls: Rise of Sins - Episode 19 - Shard of Pride and toward the Lady's Light

The party reconvened at Heidmarch’s Manor and Darien tried to identify the Shard they uncovered on Natalya. Darien’s reclusion started to worry the group so they went to his room and convinced him to go talk with Sheila. Darien was strange, more eager to start a fight than usual and he started to be presumptuous with Sheila. She had a hunch about what was going on and convinced the sorcerer to insert a Ioun Stone into the Shard which disabled the artefact’s curse.

With that taken care of, Sheila explained that what the adventurers had discovered was nothing short of a miracle, one of the shards composing the Sihedron, a powerful magic item created by Emperor Xin lord of Runelords. Xin was the exiled Azlanti that founded the great empire of Thassilon 11,000 years ago and created a group of magistrates, the Seven Runelords, to regent his empire. To maintain his reign and protect himself, Xin used powerful rune magic to create the Sihedron a defensive artefact. At the end of his life, rumors of mutiny by his trusted Runelords started to obsess him and Xin disassembled the Sihedron to syphon part of its power into the construction of a new body for himself but unfortunately the Runelords took that chance to overthrown their master. After the fight, the Seven Runelords each took one of the Shards and continued their tyrannical rule of Thassilon. Everyone agreed that the reconstruction of the Sihedron could be a way to definitely defeat Neraith and take care of Varisia’s problems.

With that information, Sheila shared that by concentrating on the Shard, one could have a vision of the location of the next Shard in the sequense which Darien did and saw the image of a gigantic statue of a beautiful woman holding a scepter emitting light. The group identify the place as the Lady’s Light, a lighthouse structure built in Thassilonian’s time in honor of Runelord Sorshen. Sheila offered to arrange the trip by ship to the Light and to search for the remaining needed Ioun Stones to activate the next Shards to which the party agreed.

The adventurers arrived on the shore of the Lady’s Cape, a few miles away from the Light, the day after departing Magnimar and made camp. In the morning, the group encountered a small hut and its inhabitant a female half-orc named Maroux. The woman told them that the region was plagued with Troglodytes and Boggards that were waging war against each other. She was unwelcoming, advised the adventurers to leave and said that she would only permit entry to her hut or knowledge of what she knew to people who could fetch her seaweed growing on the shipwreck North-West of her small island. The party departed and ventured to the location Maroux specified and found the shipwreck underwater and full of the undead crew. They dispatched the undeads easily and collected the seaweed that they brought back to Maroux. The hermit was quite pleased and made diner for the adventurers while telling her tale:

A few months ago, a group of armed women came to her hut seeking information about the Lady’s Light and a way to enter it. The leader of the group presented herself as Oriana, one of the Grey Maidens of Korvosa that were exiled after the regicide of queen Ilieosa Arbasti, the Mad Queen. Oriana wanted to venture under the Lady’s skirt to find enough treasure to retake Korvosa and drive off the throne usurpers and asked Maroux if she knew a way to enter the statue. Maroux told her that she knew that the Troglodytes and Boggards had each a way to enter the Light but they were always in state of war against each other. Oriana departed with her maidens and came back alone a month later telling that they discovered that Runelord Sorshen was in fact alive in the Light and Oriana asked Maroux to joined them under the service of Sorshen. The hermit declined not knowing if the Grey Maiden was lying, mad, played by a doppelganger of some sort or if the claim was true. Needless to say, Oriana never came back and rumors were that the Boggards had defeated the Troglodytes in their latest skirmish.

The group undertook the exploration of the Cape and encountered the Troglodytes’ cave where they were immediately attacked by three trying to protect the entrance of their village. The party easily dispatched the resistance and took a small break to regain their composure.

Requiem of Souls: Rise of Sins - Episode 17-18 : Natalya's Whereabouts

The party brought their captive to the Arvensoar, headquarters of the City Guard. There they were asked to wait and finally meet with one of the Guard officer, Kasadei. The culprit was revealed to be Plutivarch, a low-life scum and known criminal. Kasadei thanked the adventurers with a reward of gold and told them of what she knew. She admitted that the Tower Girls had vanish as of late but she knew that recently they were stationed in an abandoned warehouse ’’owned’’ by Fenster the Blight, a disgusting beast of a man. The group decided to return to Heidmarch’s Manor for the night and restart their investigation by morning.

At dawn, the group ventured in the Underbridge to find Fenster. They had no problem finding the warehouse as the Blight was a well known figure in that part of town. They entered the warehouse and found a small shelter of planks and cloths and a sign saying ‘’LEEV A GIFT AND WATE OUTSID’’ before a broken chest. The party left some small coinage and waited outside the door. They heard the creature coming to the chest and returning to his shelter. At that point, Hawklight decided to search the broken chest and when Fenster realized this he came out and attacked the party in blind rage. Fenster was in fact a wretched creature, more skin and bone than meat. His flesh was clammy and gray in places, one of his eyes was clouded over with a white film, and his clothing was caked with filth but he was a capable warrior. The group had him kneel and he started crying and asking for mercy. Darien took petty of the creature and forbade his comrades of hurting him more. Fenster admitted that the Tower Girls had stayed there for almost a week with Natalya, that he called his only friend, before leaving in the death of night. He haven’t see them in over a fortnight but his friend came back to ask him to join her new army. Fenster told them that when she came back she was changed, more brutish and mean toward him so he refused. He saw her a couple of days ago, she had took one of the old abandoned fishery as her new headquarter. The party thanked the creature and departed with Darien swearing to come back and visit his new friend.

Arrived at the fishery, the group was attacked by two guards easily dispatched. They entered the fishery, most of its floor had collapsed into the sewers, and had to fight deformed Ogrekins that were quite a match. They where then attacked by a Phase Spider but the monstrosity quickly withdrawn to the Ethereal plane. At that point they had to face Natalya, her Ogrekin guards and two giant beetles. They also made the acquaintance of Araguk, a half-orc also hired by Sheila to retrieve the artefact, who quickly joined the skirmish. The fight was rough with Natalya’s illusion magic proving to be quite effective and the beetle’s poison a dangerous threat. Grimmjow and Thumock were brought unconscious but the rest of the party succeeded without killing their target.

After all of that, the group came back to the manor and divided their loot, licked their wounds and tried to identify the mysterious magic shard they had uncovered on Natalya. Darien tried his best, trying again and again day after day to decipher the shard’s properties but its magic seamed too powerful for the sorcerer to comprehend. Darien became obsessed by the shard, unwilling to admit defeat in unraveling its secrets.

Requiem of Souls: Rise of Sins - Episode 16 : Investigation into Natalya's disappearance

After dispatching easily the gremlins, Sheila and Koriah came back into the study. The two women were surprised to witness the chaos, Koriah went directly to the opened Paradox Box and Sheila demanded explanations about the mess. The group explained that the box was trapped with a summoning spell and that they had to quarrel with the devils. Sheila paid farewell to Koriah and returned to the adventurers asking them to take a seat at the center table.
Lady Heidmarsh thanked the companions for their deed and acknowledged that this was the perfect test to prove their worth as new Pathfinder’s recruits. She told them that she had a secret mission to carry out regarding the disappearance of one of her informer, Natalya Vancaskerkin. The thief Vancaskerkin had contacted her by the intermediary of a man named the Amazing Zograthy, a well known crook living in Beacon’s Point, to become a double agent in the Sczarni gangs for the Pathfinders. Sheila was anxious to accept but she couldn’t pass the opportunity so she agreed. Two weeks ago, Natalya had sent her news of an old Thassilonian artefact discovered, probably stolen in Sheila’s mind, by the Sczarni and that she would soon bring the item to Heidmarsh’s Manor. That is the last Sheila had heard of her agent and she learned recently that even the Sczarni were looking for her now so she was expecting the worst. She also shared that rumors of Nidalese slavers kidnapping people to sell them offshore had started to circulate in town, maybe Vancaskerkin was one of the last victims and if so the city watch could have information. With those facts at hand, Heidmarsh asked the companions to retrieve the Thassilonian artefact and Natalya alive if possible and the group agreed.
The Heroes of Poleran started their investigation by paying a visit to Zograthy. The man was a fortuneteller in Beacon’s Point and it wasn’t hard to find his tent. On arrival, Darien could see by all the talismans and other trinkets that the Varisian was no seer and that it was just an act to lure tourists. Vartemoff could also see that the conman shown symptoms of pesh addiction and was a greedy old man. To gain the charlatan’s trust, Grimmjow paid for a reading and Zograthy put on his show and told stories to the Hellknight Armiger. After the exchange of money for secrets the Amazing told the group that he knew nothing about Natalya but that he heard the rumors about the slavers that supposedly kidnapped poor Varisians and that he didn’t believe they were founded. Vartemoff tried to convince the man to give them all he knew believing that the criminal was hiding something but the Varisian wouldn’t have it and the knight and Darien stormed off. After the paladin’s exit, Grimmjow threatened Zograthy that he would take is head if he wasn’t willing to cooperate and the artist cave revealing to him that Natalya was running with the Tower Girls, a cat burglars Sczarni family, and that they were searching for her themselves and he was told that they had put a price on her head. Happy about what they learned Grimmjow, Hawklight and Thumock regrouped with their friends outside the tent to decide their next move.
The group was discussing when Zograthy came out off his tent, red of anger, asking all on the street to cease the outsiders because they had threatened his life and a dozen of thugs sprang forth. The altercation was difficult with Hawklight and Thumock rendered unconscious, Spearfang running away to lick its wounds and the sorcerer being targeted more than once but the companions prevailed dispatching what remained of the brigands. Grimmjow and the other returned in Zograthy’s tent to find it deserted after what Darien used words of magic to flame the residence.
The adventurers split with Darien and Vartemoff going to the Dockways to learn more about the slavers, Thumock searching the town for Spearfang, Grimmjow and Hawklight going to Abadar’s bank and buy potions of healing. The group reunited at midnight at the Puffy Pelican, place where a group of kidnapped were to be sold to the Nidalese slavers. On site, the group found the place in ruins but a single light could be seen through the upstairs window. Hawklight was sent in recon but arrived in the room with the light source he found no one but a magical sphere of light dancing near the selling. The thief had no time to understand as a voice could be heard casting a spell and a magical fire exploded at his feet knocking him unconscious. The group stormed upstairs, witnessed their fallen comrade and Vartemoff tried to heal him with a prayer to Solaris. Grimmjow entered the room to find a hole in the floor and jumped down in the main room but couldn’t see anyone. Darien ran down the stair and used his magic vision to see the invisible spellcaster just in front of the Armiger warning his friend of the presence of the foe. Hawklight, now conscious again, and Vartemoff also came down and tried to circle their opponent. The invisible man sang again and magical sprinkles appeared blinding only Grimmjow. Vartemoff launched his blade in the heretic’s flesh and Darian casted a ray of fire that was less effective than usual at his fellow-caster. The Varisian laughed at the dragon-blooded’s fire bending ability and retaliated with an second explosion of fire that immediately dropped the sorcerer and deeply burned Vartemoff and the still blinded Grimmjow. Fire and laughter reigned into the room as the party’s morale was being torn apart but Hawklight stealthily came from the shadows to backstab the heretic with his two knives forcing him into submission…
