The party reconvened at Heidmarch’s Manor and Darien tried to identify the Shard they uncovered on Natalya. Darien’s reclusion started to worry the group so they went to his room and convinced him to go talk with Sheila. Darien was strange, more eager to start a fight than usual and he started to be presumptuous with Sheila. She had a hunch about what was going on and convinced the sorcerer to insert a Ioun Stone into the Shard which disabled the artefact’s curse.
With that taken care of, Sheila explained that what the adventurers had discovered was nothing short of a miracle, one of the shards composing the Sihedron, a powerful magic item created by Emperor Xin lord of Runelords. Xin was the exiled Azlanti that founded the great empire of Thassilon 11,000 years ago and created a group of magistrates, the Seven Runelords, to regent his empire. To maintain his reign and protect himself, Xin used powerful rune magic to create the Sihedron a defensive artefact. At the end of his life, rumors of mutiny by his trusted Runelords started to obsess him and Xin disassembled the Sihedron to syphon part of its power into the construction of a new body for himself but unfortunately the Runelords took that chance to overthrown their master. After the fight, the Seven Runelords each took one of the Shards and continued their tyrannical rule of Thassilon. Everyone agreed that the reconstruction of the Sihedron could be a way to definitely defeat Neraith and take care of Varisia’s problems.
With that information, Sheila shared that by concentrating on the Shard, one could have a vision of the location of the next Shard in the sequense which Darien did and saw the image of a gigantic statue of a beautiful woman holding a scepter emitting light. The group identify the place as the Lady’s Light, a lighthouse structure built in Thassilonian’s time in honor of Runelord Sorshen. Sheila offered to arrange the trip by ship to the Light and to search for the remaining needed Ioun Stones to activate the next Shards to which the party agreed.
The adventurers arrived on the shore of the Lady’s Cape, a few miles away from the Light, the day after departing Magnimar and made camp. In the morning, the group encountered a small hut and its inhabitant a female half-orc named Maroux. The woman told them that the region was plagued with Troglodytes and Boggards that were waging war against each other. She was unwelcoming, advised the adventurers to leave and said that she would only permit entry to her hut or knowledge of what she knew to people who could fetch her seaweed growing on the shipwreck North-West of her small island. The party departed and ventured to the location Maroux specified and found the shipwreck underwater and full of the undead crew. They dispatched the undeads easily and collected the seaweed that they brought back to Maroux. The hermit was quite pleased and made diner for the adventurers while telling her tale:
A few months ago, a group of armed women came to her hut seeking information about the Lady’s Light and a way to enter it. The leader of the group presented herself as Oriana, one of the Grey Maidens of Korvosa that were exiled after the regicide of queen Ilieosa Arbasti, the Mad Queen. Oriana wanted to venture under the Lady’s skirt to find enough treasure to retake Korvosa and drive off the throne usurpers and asked Maroux if she knew a way to enter the statue. Maroux told her that she knew that the Troglodytes and Boggards had each a way to enter the Light but they were always in state of war against each other. Oriana departed with her maidens and came back alone a month later telling that they discovered that Runelord Sorshen was in fact alive in the Light and Oriana asked Maroux to joined them under the service of Sorshen. The hermit declined not knowing if the Grey Maiden was lying, mad, played by a doppelganger of some sort or if the claim was true. Needless to say, Oriana never came back and rumors were that the Boggards had defeated the Troglodytes in their latest skirmish.
The group undertook the exploration of the Cape and encountered the Troglodytes’ cave where they were immediately attacked by three trying to protect the entrance of their village. The party easily dispatched the resistance and took a small break to regain their composure.
